THIS POEM IS ABOUT MY INSECURITIES ABOUT FEELING VERY UNCOOL AND UNDESIRABLE. IT EXPLORES HOW POVERTY, REJECTION SENSITIVITY AND FEAR CAN BE INCREDIBLY ISOLATING. IT COMMENTS OUR MATERIALISTIC SOCIETY, OUR DESIRE TO BE ACCEPTED AND THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING YOURSELF. ITS A LONG POEM AND I WOULD RECOMMEND IT WHEN YOU FEEL ISOLATED, ALIENATED AND UNSURE OF YOURSELF.

Cool Kids
I'm where there cool kids are
It's a little bit bizarre
Hoping to breathe in all that cool
Notice all the unsaid rules
Wanting to be where the cool kids stay
Do things in a cool kid way
Physically so close yet mentally so far away
I'm imagining the cool kids today
I'm imagining what I would say
If one of the cool kids noticed me
If they coolly said hey
Theres a cool kid cafe
They go almost every day
To do cool things
And display
How cool it is
To do things the cool kid way
These thoughts betray
The cool kid way
They convey
The effort, overthinking and analysis
That isn't the cool kid way
It isn't on the cool kid resume
Or at least that's what they say
Oh the YSLs? It's okay
I can manage it today
This drip?
Head to toe Versace
Just because its Friday
At least that's what they say
At least that's what they portray
Don't be led astray
I'll acknowledge my naivete
Leave alone the cliche
Consider the dedication to fabrication
The obligation of participation
The regurgitation and imitation
The desperation for validation
The obedience to what the other cool kids say
Open my eyes to the hindrance and delay
The risk and repercussions
Of strictly adhering to what the cool kids say
And when I'm too tired to stay
Sneak off much to their dismay
Refuse the buffet
Of group chat, group drinks, group think
Develop my own vertebrae
That will be with the first stone
To paving my own way
